Ryan's Crohn's disease is very severe, more severe than you will read about on any WebMd website or google search. He has thus far undergone 5 surgeries, a 9 day hospital stay, 23 weeks of pain and hardship that most of us will never comprehend, and even still, his journey is far from over.
The newest twist in his health journey is that he will receive an intensive drug therapy called Remicade intravenously every several weeks. At the beginning of this therapy we go more often and then every 8 weeks to keep his Crohn's in remission. Gone are the days of picking up a good ole antibiotic from the local pharmacy. Now we drive to a Gastrointerology Clinic where Ryan is hooked up to an IV and received a transfusion of his drug over a 3-4 hour time span. Intense!
So to "celebrate" that we will be doing this so often we decided that it is worth our time to have a Post Remicade Ritual. Something to look forward to after the appointment, after those darn IV's, and before the side effects of the medicine set in.
Behold our ritual: We will always venture to Chick-Fil-A!!!
We never eat fast food. N.E.V.E.R. But post Remicade appoinments, you'll know where to find us. At the drive through of this chicken joint ordering nuggets and waffle fries. Yum :)
If you have a standing weekly or monthly appointment, consider setting up a fun "ritual" with your spouse. Creating something to look forward to and connect over after a not so fun appointment will be a relief and like a mini date that is always waiting for you in this hard, difficult season.
With JOY,
Ryan & Carly
